SPECIAL EVENT STATION K4H WILL BE PRESENTED BY THE KERSHAW COUNTY AMATEUR RADIO CLUB APRIL 19-23, 2024
The British and many Loyalists garrisoned in Camden, under Lord Rawdon, attempted a surprise attack on the Patriot encampments a few miles north of the inland town. Despite the alarm being sounded, the battle was nearly a rout for the British before Gen. Greene withdrew his troops. However, due to illness and a lack of reinforcements, Rawdon removed his troops back to Camden that evening. The Patriots then retook the area.
About two weeks later, the British left Camden as the Patriot’s efforts to cut supply lines from Charleston took effect. It was a tactical defeat, yet a strategic victory.
